We are set up to become a collective management organisation (CMO) for visual artists. This means that we intend to represent and manage the copyright of visual artists, for their collective benefit.
Our aims are twofold:
- to administer the artist’s resale right (droit de suite) for artists who have signed up with us; and
- to act as an intermediary between artists (or their heirs) who have signed up with us and persons (whether legal or natural) who want to use works belonging to these artists and require a licence to do so.
We are a non-profit organisation and artists will not need to pay a fee to sign up. We will cover our expenses through a small commission from amounts collected.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of implementing Regulations for the Law on collective management of copyright and related rights and multi-territorial licensing of rights in musical works for online use (L. 65(I)/2017), the framework for registering and operating a CMO in Cyprus is uncertain. We are therefore eagerly awaiting updates regarding their enactment from the House of Representatives so that we can proceed with operating Galatia.
